Check Entries¶
Everything the AKC export needs and a trial has not got, listed before it matters.

What it checks¶

Category |
Error when |
|---|---|
Address |
an owner has no street, no city, no state, or no postal code |
Owner |
an owner has no last name, or no country |
Dog |
a dog has no registered name, no registration number for your organisation, no sex, or no date of birth |
Armband |
a dog is entered but has no armband number |
Event |
a day has no AKC event number |
Note
A missing country is the quiet one. It does not crash and it does not print anything wrong — the dogs of that owner are simply left out of the file, which the AKC accepts without complaint. Worth knowing because it is the one fault here you would never notice by reading the export.
Every one of these is written straight into the AKC XML file. An address needs all four parts. A partial address is not something the program can sensibly guess at, so it is reported rather than filled in with a blank.
Press Check Again after fixing something; the list is rebuilt from scratch each time.
Note
A check that cannot run reports itself in the list, under the category Checker. It is not the same as a check that passed, and the difference matters — so it is never silent.
It runs before the AKC export¶
Reports > AKC Electronic Data runs the same checks first. If anything is wrong it opens this window, says so, and writes no file.
That is deliberate. The export used to fail outright on a missing city — an error message halfway through, with a part-written file left behind. Filling the gaps in with blanks instead would produce a complete-looking file that the AKC rejects days later, which is harder to deal with than being stopped now.

No AKC event number |

Note
A missing armband usually means the event’s armband numbers were never seeded — nothing allocates one until that has happened. Rebuild Arm Band Numbers on the Trial Setup screen is the repair, and there is a separate step there for filling in dogs that were entered while it was broken.
