Judge’s book packet

The paperwork a judge is handed is three documents: a book cover, the judge’s book pages, and — for obedience — an award placement sheet. This screen produces all of them for one or more days as a single PDF.

Judge’s Book Packet

Reports > Judge’s Book Packet. Obedience and rally.

Choose the days on the left — more than one, if you want the whole trial in one file. Each day shows its date and its AKC event number, since two trials can share a calendar date and the event number is what tells them apart.

Tick which documents you want. All three are ticked to begin with.

Document

Produced for

Book covers

every class, obedience and rally

Judge’s books

every class, obedience and rally

Placement sheets

obedience only, and only the merged Open and Utility classes

Note

Placement sheets are not produced for every class. The program prints one where a regular class and its Preferred counterpart are judged together — Open B with Preferred Open, Utility B with Preferred Utility — and for no other class. That is unchanged from the individual Award Placement Sheet button.

Order

The two choices under Order decide how the finished PDF is arranged. Both contain exactly the same paper.

All covers, then all books groups by document: every cover, then every book, then the placement sheets. Use it when you are collating a pile of paperwork yourself.

Grouped by class puts each class’s cover, book and placement sheet together before moving to the next class, in ring order. Use it when the paperwork is to be handed out class by class — a run comes out ready to split.

Grouped by class takes longer, because each document is produced separately: a two-day trial of 22 classes is about half a minute, against about six seconds the other way. The line above the buttons says how many classes and how many documents before you commit to it.

Building it

Build… asks where to save, offering a name in the trial’s folder, then writes the file. A class with nobody entered in it is skipped silently — that is ordinary, and one empty class does not stop the rest.

Note

Joining the documents needs qpdf, the same tool the agility judge’s packet uses. If it is not installed the program says so before producing anything, rather than after the slow part, and the individual buttons still work.

The individual documents

Reports > Judges Books (frmJudgesBookByDate) still produces one document at a time — pick a day, then press Book Cover, Book Pages or Award Placement for obedience or rally. Nothing about it has changed, and it remains the way to reprint a single cover without building a whole packet.
