Scribe sheets by paper color

Scribe sheets are usually printed on colored paper, a color to a class, so a ring crew can tell one stack from another at a glance. These two screens hold that scheme and print from it.

Scribe Sheet Colors

Tools > Scribe Sheet Colors.

Sets up the colors once. The scheme is not part of a trial: it is kept with the data file, so it holds good for every event in that file and every club you run one for. Setting it up again each show is not needed.

Add asks for a name. Use whatever is written on the ream — Yellow, Goldenrod, Blue. Nothing is drawn in that color on screen; the name is there for the person standing at the printer. Two colors cannot share a name.

With a color selected on the left, move classes between the two lists:

List

Holds

Available classes

every class no color has taken yet

Printed on <color>

the classes on the color selected at the left

Select one or more and press Add ==> or <== Remove, or double-click a class to move it across. Moves are saved as you make them — there is no Save button.

Classes are named the way the rest of the program names them:

Standard / Master / Regular
Jumpers With Weaves / Excellent B / Preferred

Note

A class prints on one color. Once a class is on a color it leaves the available list, so no other color can take it. To move a class from one color to another, select the color that has it, remove it there, then add it where you want it.

Rename and Delete act on the color selected on the left. Deleting a color puts its classes back in the available list and does nothing else — no entry, and no scribe sheet already printed, is affected.

Carrying the scheme to a new data file

The scheme belongs to the data file it is kept in. When you start a new one — a new season, say — Save Scheme… writes the colors and their classes to a file, and Load Scheme… reads one back in a different data file.

The file records classes by name, not by internal number, because those numbers differ from one data file to the next. The receiving file matches the names against its own classes.

Loading adds; it never removes. A color already there keeps what it has and gains what it lacks, and a class already on some other color is left where it is. Anything that could not be placed is listed when the load finishes:

Message

Means

no such class here

this data file has no class of that name

is already on another color

left where it is; move it by hand if you meant to

could not look up

the lookup itself failed — report this one

Note

Nothing is skipped quietly. A scheme that silently lost half its classes would print half a stack on the wrong paper, and nobody would find out until the ring.

Note

Colors are set up under Agility. A color can carry classes from another discipline, but the screens that use them are on the Agility menus.

Scribe Sheets by Color

Reports > Scoring Table > Scribe Sheets by Color.

Prints everything belonging on one color of paper, for one or more days of the event you have selected.

Choose the days on the left — more than one, if the same paper covers them — and the paper color on the right. Each day shows its date and its AKC event number, since two trials can share a calendar date and the event number is what tells them apart.

Move-ups only narrows the run to dogs moved up into a class, which is what you want on the morning of the second day.

Under the color, a line reports what has been selected before anything is printed:

2 classes on 3 days, 600 runs

If it says something you did not expect — no runs, or far too many — fix the selection rather than the paper.

The three buttons preview the same sheets in three layouts:

Button

Prints

Full Sheets - 4 to a page

four quarter panes on a letter sheet, to be cut

Half Sheets - 2 to a page

two panes, for paper already cut in half

One Sheet at a Time

one pane centred, for a hand-fed quarter sheet

Each opens a preview; print from there. Whichever layout you choose, the panes are ordered so that cutting a printed stack leaves each pile already in running order — there is no sorting to do afterwards.

If the color has nothing entered on the days chosen, the program says so rather than opening an empty preview.

Note

The colors must be set up before this screen is any use. If no color carries any of the trial’s classes, it says which menu item to go to.
